The Kalendar Symbol

Brooding upon his younger self, an old man is proud to realize he has become a more serene and peaceful individual.

Commentary

His days as a soldier are long gone, but they have left scars and memories that still haunt him. The nightmares and flashbacks have left him by the grace of God. He will never take another person’s life again, not even in self-defense. If it is within his power to avoid harm to other sentient beings, he will do so gladly. On his arms, the instruments of his prior aggressiveness, he now carries a tattoo depicting a symbol of non-violence. He sees it every time he reaches out for anything and everything within his grasp.
