The Kalendar Symbol
A group of baseball players come up “at bat” to home base under the watchful gaze of an umpire.
Walking as if on parade, a string of baseball players approach home base. Their goal is simply to hit the ball into the field without going foul of the rules. Enforcing the rules is the umpire standing behind them. He or she attends carefully and precisely to the action and calls all the plays. Except for their special protective gear, they look deceptively like one of the players. They are standing in the right place with the requiste knowledge and experience to exercise sound judgement in the fray of controversy. Their calls are sometimes like battle cries in a war zone and often attract umbrage. They are part of the game, but not of it; above and removed from the outcome through impartiality, they are indispensable but not infallible to the formation of quality outcomes.
