Welcome! Now here are some disclaimers I’d like you to know about.

When I studied for a graduate certificate from Pacific Integral a while back, I was fascinated to learn about various assessment methodologies for adult human development. Terri O’Fallon, an expert in assessment methodology and a creator of the STAGES method, impressed me once by saying that one doesn’t need to be *at* the highest level stages in order to *describe* them. I agree.

That’s an important distinction to bear in mind when you read about my reflections on this blog, particularly in The Kalendar and alchemical art.Β On The Kalendar, I will be describing many typologies, states, and even stages of consciousness that have never before been described in the fashion of this worldview artistry. Who knew that the meta-mind stage (Violet altitude) can be represented artistically by a sequence of Nine Thrones the final of which is Nguvu, a Swahili word meaning “Strength, Power, Passion, Vehemence”, and the subtle energy signature of Yung-Yang-Yung-Yung (𝍄)?

Today, for instance, I described aspects of the Teal altitude as the Archetype or Meta-Act of The Evolutionary, drawing primarily upon inferences based on a “meta-view” of phonosemantic iconism instead of psychological theory. No one has ever done that before. It’s new and different. I find it exciting; you might find it bizarre or non-scientific, especially if your mind is closed to intuitive insights disclosed to meta-cognitive processes. Remember, it’s foremost *art* and its interpretation, not scientific theory. If you find its insights valuable, use them as a supplement to empirically-derived, rigorously tested maps of development that you find useful.

While I’ve checked it with my own experience as any artist would prior to sharing his conclusions, such a subjective methodology does not guarantee that my conclusions will resonate with the academic doctrines of developmentalists or the mystical theories of gurus who lived in a very different cultural and historical context than our own. (And that’s a good thing. If my art agreed with Integral dogma 100%, it could be a sign that I was merely following convention rather than letting the subtle energy of speech, sound, and art itself form the basis for my work.)

Well, by the winter solstice of this year, I will have written articles and entries for The Kalendar which provide an artistic map for the entirety of both the Second Tier and Third Tier of consciousness. Perhaps it is needless to say this, but I don’t claim to have personally developed a permanent stage realization at clear light or beyond — or many of the 27 Thrones of the Third Tier of Mind; nor do I believe that I have deep, longstanding experience with quite a number of the stages that I’ll be talking about as a worldview artist.

Then why bother? Because the art itself gives us a way of looking at reality that, once seen, can’t be unseen. By beginning to represent these high potentials for individual and collective divinization or enlightenment or Allah-consciousness or Una-Mind or what have you, we can help to shed light in the darkness that can benefit ourselves and others along their unique journeys.

Ken Wilber wrote in The Religion of Tomorrow:

Semiotics is a matter of emancipation. By naming and signifying the higher structures and states, it opens the doorway to our own growth and development into these states; it gives the mind permission to begin thinking in those directions; it reassures us that those realities are indeed really there.

So bear in mind that you are reading an artist’s sketchbook in progress in an effort to push language to its limits by looking to the “within” of sound and symbol as our muses. There are no guarantees that I will get it all right, or even mostly right. You can be assured there will be mistakes. That’s all part of the fun of adventure, I think. Let me be the maze runner who darts ahead in the mud maze and returns with a scouting report (and then do what you like with it). The maze runner doesn’t linger so long at any one spot in the maze to memorize its layout; he simply notes the features as they look to him and heads back to the base-camp as soon as possible.
