The Kalendar Symbol

In a reenactment of the Christian mysteries, an actor receives simulated wounds; later, stigmata appear on his body in locations corresponding to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ.

Commentary

The strange dramas involving performers and crowds continue to a new stage. An actor participates so fully in the role of a suffering God that his psychosomatic body displays actual wounds. After displaying his acting before a crowd, he is elevated to deep harmony with the role he played. The lines between reality and simulation have vanished; the divinity to which he prostrated himself and sought to emulate has shockingly appeared in his own physical manifestation.
